UOMO :: embodiment & awakening :: |
01 |
The first two UOMO workshops constitute the Embodiment and Awakening Phase of the 18-month journey.
They address two fundamental questions:
Workshop I
Can I inhabit the body of the man I am?
Workshop II
Can I perceive the man I am through sensation, energy and relationship?
The movement is:
BODY → SENSATION → PLEASURE → PRESENCE → ENERGY → SENSUALITY → PERCEPTION → IDENTITY
Before exploring sexuality, archetypes, relationships, spirituality or advanced energetic practices, the participant learns to inhabit himself.
The body becomes the first teacher.

Workshop 1 |
— BODY, PLEASURE & CONSCIOUSNESS
Awakening the Experience of Being a Man
Duration
Thursday November 12th. 19hrs → November 15th. Sunday 15:00
Central proposition
I have a male body, but how consciously do I inhabit it?
This first retreat establishes the foundations of the entire UOMO process.
Rather than beginning with an intellectual discussion about masculinity, participants encounter masculinity through:
- posture
- breath
- movement
- physical sensation
- skin
- weight
- strength
- relaxation
- vulnerability
- pleasure
- boundaries
- touch
- presence
The fundamental movement is from:
thinking about being a man → experiencing being a man.
Ken Wilber: “Few of us have lost our minds, but most of us have long ago lost our bodies.”Benjamin Disraeli: “Man is never so manly as when he feels deeply, acts boldly, and expresses himself with frankness and fervor.” |
1. THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
1.1 The Body as the First Territory of Consciousness
The body is not simply something a man possesses.
It is the place through which he experiences existence.
Before there is identity, there is sensation.
Before there is interpretation, there is perception.
Before a man says:
“This is who I am.”
there is the more fundamental experience:
“I am here.”
Therefore, embodiment becomes the first threshold of masculine consciousness.
1.2 The Four Dimensions of Embodiment
We work with four dimensions.
Physical Body
Muscles, fascia, bones, posture, movement, breathing and physical sensation.
Question:
What does my body actually feel like from inside?
Sensory Body
Touch, temperature, pressure, movement, smell, sound and internal sensation.
Question:
How much can I perceive without immediately interpreting?
Emotional Body
The physical expressions accompanying emotion: contraction, expansion, trembling, heat, heaviness, softness, activation.
Question:
Can I feel emotion as bodily experience before creating a story about it?
Symbolic/Energetic Body
The participant begins exploring the body through traditional yogic and Tantric maps:
- prana
- chakras
- nadis
- central axis
- grounding
- expansion
- contraction
These are introduced as traditional contemplative and experiential maps rather than established anatomical structures.
2. PLEASURE AS A CAPACITY
Pleasure is broader than sexuality.
A man can experience pleasure through:
- breathing
- stretching
- movement
- warmth
- water
- food
- music
- nature
- touch
- rest
- connection
- silence
- strength
- surrender
One purpose of this workshop is therefore to separate:
PLEASURE ≠ SEX
Pleasure becomes a capacity for experiencing life.
The participant investigates:
How much sensation can I receive before I need to do something with it?
This distinction will later become fundamental to the work with sexuality.
- THE MASCULINE BODY
The workshop introduces an inquiry:
“What makes my body a man’s body for me?”
Not:
“What should a masculine body look like?”
Instead:
- How do I experience strength?
- How do I experience softness?
- How do I occupy space?
- How do I experience my chest?
- My abdomen?
- My pelvis?
- My legs?
- My genitals?
- My voice?
- My physical power?
- My vulnerability?
There is no predetermined correct answer.
The objective is self-perception rather than conformity to a masculine ideal.
- FIVE PRINCIPLES OF WORKSHOP I
1. SLOW DOWN
Sensory consciousness requires time.
2. FEEL BEFORE INTERPRETING
Participants learn to distinguish:
sensation → emotion → interpretation → reaction.
3. RECEIVE
Many men are comfortable doing but less comfortable receiving.
Receiving becomes a practice.
4. CHOOSE
Every relational exercise involves choice.
5. WITNESS
A man learns to experience himself without immediately correcting himself.
THURSDAY

Opening Initiation — Entering the Body
Part I — Crossing the Threshold
Participants enter the practice room in silence.
Shoes are removed at the entrance as a symbolic transition from ordinary life into embodied practice.
Slow walking meditation.
Attention moves toward:
- feet
- legs
- pelvis
- abdomen
- chest
- shoulders
- face
- breath
Exercise: “Where Am I?”
Participants stop periodically.
Three questions:
What am I sensing?
Where am I sensing it?
What happens if I do nothing about it?
Part II — Men’s Circle
Each participant completes:
“Today, being a man means…”
Then:
“Something I rarely allow other men to see in me is…”
No discussion.
Only witnessing.
Part III — Embodiment Meditation
20–25 minutes.
Attention progressively moves:
feet → legs → pelvis → belly → heart → throat → face → whole body.
Finish with:
“I do not need to become anything tonight.
I begin by inhabiting what is already here.”
Closing
Simple grounding.
Silence until morning encouraged.
FRIDAY

Where am I holding?
08:30–10:00
Breakfast.
10:30–13:30
WORKSHOP — THE BODY I INHABIT
Theory
45 minutes:
- embodiment
- interoception
- sensory awareness
- body image versus body experience
- tension and protection
- pleasure and presence
- body and masculine identity
Exercise 1 — Body Mapping
Each participant draws a human silhouette.
Three categories are mapped:
ALIVE
Areas easily perceived.
QUIET
Areas difficult to perceive.
PROTECTED
Areas associated with tension, shame, vulnerability or defensiveness.
No interpretation is initially required.
Exercise 2 — Masculine Postures
Participants physically explore:
- power
- protection
- confidence
- shame
- fear
- seduction
- vulnerability
- tenderness
They exaggerate each posture and observe:
What changes in my breath?
What changes in my chest?
What changes in my pelvis?
What changes in my gaze?
Exercise 3 — Witnessing the Man
Pairs.
A stands.
B observes silently.
A explores different postures.
B does not analyze A.
Afterward B says only:
“What I noticed in myself while witnessing you was…”
The distinction is essential:
witnessing rather than judging.
13:30–15:30
Lunch and rest.
15:30–18:30
BODYWORK — RECEIVING THE BODY
Introduction to conscious touch.
Before any touch:
The Three Questions
- May I touch you?
- Where may I touch you?
- How would you like to be touched?
Participants practice saying:
- yes
- no
- slower
- lighter
- stronger
- stop
- continue
- I don’t know
Practice
A structured non-sexual body massage:
- feet
- legs
- back
- shoulders
- arms
- hands
- head
The receiver practices doing nothing.
The central teaching:
Receiving is also an action of consciousness.
19:00–20:00
Dinner.
21:30–23:00
Ritual — THE SKIN
Low light.
Meditative self-touch using oil.
Hands slowly encounter:
- arms
- chest
- abdomen
- face
- legs
No goal.
No sexualization.
Only sensation.
Finish lying down with hands over heart and belly.
Question:
Can my own touch tell my body that I am present?
SATURDAY
PLEASURE
Theme
I ALLOW MYSELF TO FEEL
07:00–08:15

— THE ANATOMY OF PLEASURE
Theory
Pleasure is explored through five layers:
Sensory pleasure
Touch, temperature, sound, smell.
Physical pleasure
Movement, stretching, relaxation.
Emotional pleasure
Safety, affection, belonging.
Relational pleasure
Being seen and accepted.
Energetic pleasure
Experiences interpreted within Tantric practice as expansion, flow, vibration and movement of prana.
Experience — The Sensory Laboratory
Five stations:
Touch
Different textures.
Sound
Listening meditation.
Smell
Natural aromas.
Movement
Slow intuitive movement.
Stillness
Receiving sensation without external stimulation.
Participants record:
What opens me?
What closes me?
What makes me curious?
Practice — Pleasure Without Performance
Pairs.
One participant receives a hand/arm/shoulder touch sequence.
Receiver communicates only:
more / less / slower / faster / stop / continue.
This introduces a principle that will become central later in sexuality:
Pleasure does not require performance.
13:30–15:30
Lunch/rest.
15:30–18:30
THE PELVIS — ROOT OF THE EMBODIED MAN
This session introduces the pelvis without making the session explicitly sexual.
Theory
- pelvis and movement
- pelvic floor awareness
- breathing and pelvic mobility
- Muladhara and Svadhisthana as traditional energetic maps
- grounding
- pleasure
- shame
- vitality
Practices
Pelvic circles.
Hip opening.
Squatting.
Breathing into the lower abdomen.
Mula Bandha awareness without excessive contraction.
Movement with eyes closed.
Grounding through feet and legs.
Partner practice
One participant moves.
One witnesses.
Switch.
Integration:
“What changes when another man sees my body move?”
19:00–20:00
Dinner.
21:30–23:00
FIRE RITUAL — THE MAN I WAS TAUGHT TO BE
Participants write:
“A man should…”
Repeatedly.
Examples may emerge:
A man should be strong.
A man should not cry.
A man should provide.
A man should always know.
A man should be sexually capable.
A man should never be afraid.
Each participant chooses one inherited belief he wishes to question.
The paper is symbolically offered to fire where appropriate and safe.
Closing statement:
“I begin discovering the man beneath the expectation.”
